2016 Franchise Times Dealmakers

Auspex Congratulates Mark Peterson and Krystal Burge
Franchise Times' 2016 Dealmakers of the Year

This deal married one of Taco Bell’s most prolific new store developers with what is likely the brand’s greatest domestic development opportunity for the San Antonio DMA.

Auspex Capital would like to congratulate Mark Peterson and Krystal Burge for being selected as the Franchise Times’ 2016 Dealmakers of the Year.

Mark Peterson and sister, Krystal Burge acquired 35 Taco Bell, KFC and Taco Bell/KFC co-branded restaurants in and around San Antonio, TX., and negotiated a 15 restaurant development agreement with Taco Bell Corp. in the San Antonio DMA.

Mark and Krystal operate one of the largest and most successful Taco Bell franchises in the US. The 2014 Glen Bell Franchisee of the Year award winners are one of the brand’s most prolific new restaurant developers and the opportunity to move into the San Antonio market came at a perfect time for the company as it recently completed the build out of its existing markets and sought to continue to grow its highly profitable Taco Bell business.

In 2014, San Antonio had only 14 free standing Taco Bell restaurants and there had been no net new units added to the market in more than a decade. The lack of penetration in such a major market was a huge opportunity for the Taco Bell brand, its loyal fans, and for Mark and Krystal. This deal married one of Taco Bell’s most prolific new store developers with what is likely the brand’s greatest domestic development opportunity to date. Congratulations, Mark and Krystal!

Auspex Capital has been Mark and Krystal’s exclusive financial advisor since 2004 and provided strategic advisory and debt placement services for the San Antonio transaction.
